The yearly occurrence of head and neck cancers globally is approximately 550,000 cases (2014). Head and neck cancer SCC is the 6th most common cancer worldwide. It is more prevalent in areas with high alcohol and tobacco consumption which are directly linked to increased incidence of these tumors. There is insufficient data to fully estimate the prevalence of head and neck cancer in the Middle East. However, it is estimated to account for approximately 12%-18% out of all body tumors occurring in the Middle East (2001).
